Casio CZ-101

image provided by the synths owner, Andreas Remshagen of Cologne, Germany

The Casio CZ-101 was available in Germany beginning in 1984. We are still unsure exactly when production ended. The CZ-101 is a 4 octave, 49 note digital synth iwth MIDI capabilities. It features 16 preset and 16 internal banks as well as an external cartridge. It uses phase distortion, 8 waveforms and ring+noise modulation.

While, this synth was good in its time, its suffers because of its limited memory and polypohony (it only has 8 oscillators). The keys are also small and the keyboard is not velocity sensitive.

We are still researching the Casio CZ-101
