Casio FZ-1

image provided by the synths owner, Jesper Odemark of Malmo, Sweden

This synth was built in 1989 which may have been the beginning of the production period for the FZ-1. In Sweden it costed 26.000 kronors which (in today's value is a little less than 2.000 pounds!). The memory could be expanded from 1 to 2 Mb. This upgrade cost two or three thousand as well. So, the total cost for an expanded FZ-1 was more than 2.000 pounds in todays value (back then it was close to 3.000). Today, the whole instrument sells for less than the expansion card did back then!

But the reason I've kept this machine is the great display which makes it easy to work with. I really dislike these liquid crystals otherwise. Stepping through menues isn't my thing, I like turning knobs and adjusting sliders. I normally only use the sampler part and mostly for basses, drums and vocal effect samples.
